The first ever kilt I made was made as a private commission several years ago for a friend who had someone close to them who was having a baby right before Renaissance Faire season and they were devout -and I do mean DEVOUT Faire goers. I have improved my pattern since then. I no longer use velcro as I have long since decided that the various amounts of detritus it picks up in the teeth does not make up for the convenience of the on/off of the item.
The waist is completely elasticized and I make them available in three sizes only at present. Color availability is subject to my personal fancy when shopping and what remains in my stash after special orders are done as I do tend to get special orders just before Faire season happens.
Sizing for babies is not an exact science so here are the measurements I use. Ideally you would want the kilt to fall to just below the knee, but if you are hoping for the little one to crawl in it, that is not always the best plan either. And it also has to fit around a diaper, so do plan for that.
If you need anything special sized for your child, please contact me and I will see what I can do. Each kilt is hand pleated with soft cotton flannel for your child’s comfort and ease of cleaning in mind.
